'Ring, Ring'
'Ouch Sylvia! Don't click anything when I am trying to talk to you'I said.
I'm sorry Ky, sorry, sorry. Are you okay?' she asked gently
Sylvia and I were neighbours since young. I've known her as Sophia and she did not bother to correct me when we were little kids. My backyard faces hers. We tend to play there but somehow, I did not open the door to let her enter but instead, we played happily with the door seperating us. We often played our wired toy phone. It was a gift from my dad for being an obedient girl.
We stopped playing with each other after attending primary school due to the homework piled on us and tuition classes. Occasionally, we would both meet in the kitchen but we did not greet each other. Time passed, we happened to be in the same school. To be more accurate, we both were from a different secondary school transferred to he same school. her mum came to my house one morning to ask about my transportation to school, so , I told her the school bus would pick me up from my house at 11.45am as I was in the afternoon session.
She was on the bus one morning. I was amazed to see the changes in her. Short hair, tanned skin, tall and fit, and 5 moles on her face. I took my initiative to say 'hi', I remembered calling her Sophia and she was like, 'I am Sylvia , not Sophia'. It was embarrassing but i blamed her for not correcting me when we were six. WE got along well at school and soon. we became close friends.
We hang out with a group of friends, and from there, we formed a gang. A gang is sworn not to split. Sylvia and I would take a bus to One Utama when there is mega sales or we would just randomly pick a day after school to hang out. We both joined the same club and society for the school's extra curriculum activities. my mum and her mum take turns to drive us to everywhere because we have the same tuition classes, club/society and outings. Our favourite activity at the mall is to try on clothes and give comments on the fashion. she used to wear a T-shirt and surf pants with a pair of slippers.
In January this year, we were chatting in my room and i was showing her some new clothes i bought from a bazaar. She sat down, very seriously, she told me, she was going to Aus for her studies in Feb. i didn't know how to respond. But we both knew, we would appreciate wach other with the remaining days and quality time. she looked forward to it as she's always dreamed to study high school overseas and she wouldn't want to miss any opportunity.
The day has finally arrived. The whole gang went to the airport to say goodbye. She is a very good friend to me, i might say best. A very patient listener, very mature in thinking, wise and rational. yet, she can be naughty sometimes. Recalling the old days, we looked at each other and smiled :)
